Stop the car and put it into first gear before you tackle the hill that takes you up to Belvedere. The owner (a local builder) clearly know what he was doing: the four bedroom villa has been slotted into the carved-out cliff face and, once inside, you'll see every room faces forward - so you have views of Porto Vecchio from the shower, from the bed, from the pool, even the loo. It's too much of rigmarole to walk to the local restaurants, but 10 minutes by car and you're in Porto Vecchio. Here the sea bass and sardines are transferred straight from the sea to restaurant tables every day. Or pick up a kilo of prawns at the market and dine on Belvedere’s wraparound terrace.
