My dream holiday scenario: After a panicky day at work I return home to find a perfectly packed capsule wardrobe, my fake tan develops into a deep Piz Buin gold and tickets/money/passport sit by the door raring to go. The reality: After a panicky day at work I return home to a pile of dirty washing, the fake tan I apply embeds itself neon orange onto my knees and my eldest son Arthur is burning up with suspected Swine Flu. A night of hunt the Tamiflu ensues and our trip to Corsica seems unlikely. But behold! By 7am Arthur’s temperature is normal and, hooray, we can go. However, the stress, lack of sleep and the fact Jonah, my youngest, decides to be sick in the car after we land brings a feeling of doom as well as an unpleasant fragrance for the next three hours. Maybe we should have holidayed...

The Independent Enjoys the Luxury of Coastline ...

Anyone for the snout? Was not a question I expected to hear when I booked a villa holiday in Majorca. And yet there we were, sat around the table on our sun-streaked terrace, in front of a freshly roasted whole suckling pig. “Come on, it’s the best bit” said the chef offering the crispy morsel to my girlfriend. In fact, it was not half bad, especially when served with views across a swathe of golden cornfields and out towards a deep blue sea.
We had a fridge stacked with ice-cold local rose wine, a chef to cater to our every culinary whim – and no more than 30 paces to walk to bed when the midnight oil ran dry. After a day around our own pool we were in heaven. I’d never been one for villa breaks. I always thought I’d feel like I’d broken into someone else’s house and...

Luxury Last Minute Holiday with Coastline in Ma...

Q: Its officially the summer holidays and – guess what – for the first time ever we don’t have anything planned! We had wanted to wait to see how thing were financially in July. The good news is that things area still relatively good so we have decided to book a last-minute holiday. We want to find a decent villa in Europe, with a private pool close to the beach at a good price. What is our best option? Glenys, by email A: You’re in luck…. Do baby-friendly foreign holidays really exist?

Melanie Kendall, mum of two-month-old Noah, wants to know – because she's hoping to take her cherub on his first holiday abroad. Melanie, you may have noticed that the trouble with babies is they require an awful lot of clobber: think nappies, buggies, bottles and kitchen sinks. Holidaying with a newborn is about as pain-free as moving house.

Coastline (0844 557 1020; coastline.co.uk), too, offers all the gear you never knew you needed, from stair gates to potties and bumper boxes of toys, as well as lots of luxury for parents: check out the lovely villa Dona Lisa, near Porto-Vecchio in Corsica, brand new for this season. Best of all, these properties come with the option of a full-time nanny. Now, you can't get baby-friendlier than that.

Not only is the location of this holiday home unbeatable, up in the hills with views across the Gulf of Porto Vecchio to the marina of Porto Vecchio, but Villa Belvedere is as chic as they come: inside you’ll find a huge open-plan living space and sleek bathrooms, while outside there’s a lovely teak terrace and an infinity pool. If you can tear yourself away, check out the beaches of Santa Guilia and Palombaggia, and the bars, shops and restaurants of Porto Vecchio, all just a few kilometres away.

We even got our own mountain. That's what we told ourselves at any rate. And indeed the towering, volcano-shaped beauty, as viewed from the private deck, appeared to have been plonked down on the landscape exclusively for our gratification. Attention to this kind of detail typifies the Coastline experience. Other sensational services we happily took advantage of included the private chef - a quiet lad called Tom from Grimsby - who cooked like he was raised on the baking Mediterranean coast. Wonderful fresh fish, platters heaving with delicious seafood, local meat and lip smacking Corsican wines, were just some of the treats of the feast he knocked up for us one evening. But Tom will and can cook you anything you desire, and cook it beautifully, and he's a dab hand at charming chatty ten year old boys too. The service from the rest of the team was attentive and...
